APPYPARKING UNLOCKS THE CITY OF LONDON FOR BLUE BADGE HOLDERS WITH REAL-TIME AVAILABILITY OF DISABLED BAYS

  • Blue Badge holders can now use the free AppyParking mobile app to see the availability of 188 accessible parking bays across the City of London
  • For the first time ever, the Parking Services Team at the City of London Corporation will be able to see exactly how the accessible bays are used
  • The City Corporation will use this data to better inform future parking and transport policy decisions that impact kerbside access for vulnerable road users

LONDON, UK – 11 June 2019: AppyParking, the kerbside management and smart parking technology firm, and the City of London Corporation have confirmed the launch of real-time occupancy of accessible bays across the City. Using AppyParking’s smart sensor solution, Blue Badge holders can now use the free AppyParking mobile app to not only see the locations of accessible bays across the City of London but also check to see if they’re available.

In addition to the location and availability of accessible bays, the app also shows the location, rules and prices for all on and off-street parking in the Square Mile. Motorists can link through to commonly used navigation apps such as Waze or Google Maps from AppyParking and drive directly to the parking space of their choice.

The launch of this initiative will bring greater access to the Square Mile for Blue Badge holders. The AppyParking analytics platform will also, for the first time ever, give the Parking Services Team at the City Corporation, the ability to see exactly how the accessible bays are being used and view parking data in one centralised system. The data will better inform future parking and transport policy decisions that impact kerbside access for vulnerable road users and improve enforcement operations.

Alastair Moss, Chair of the Planning and Transportation Committee at the City of London Corporation “An important part of our Transport Strategy is to use smart technology to improve accessibility in the Square Mile.

“With almost 200 accessible parking bays available for use, we want all City visitors to travel comfortably and confidently while feeling welcome and safe – and partnerships such as these will be essential to achieving that goal.

“Together we are making the car-parking experience as user-friendly, and navigable as possible, saving the time and frustrations for those who need it most.”

Dan Hubert, CEO & Founder of AppyParking commented “We’re committed to making parking forgettable for absolutely everyone. We’re thrilled to be supporting The City of London in alleviating some of the accessibility challenges Blue Badge holders face. By adding into our app the locations and real-time availability of accessible bays across the Square Mile, Blue Badge holders can quickly and conveniently locate accessible parking bays.”
