Smart City Parking pilot in Harrogate extended

London, UK – 27th February 2020, AppyWay, the Smart City Parking and kerbside management firm has today confirmed that Harrogate Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council will be extending the Smart City Parking scheme in Harrogate Town Centre for a further 12 months. The extension follows on from a successful year where the scheme has saved drivers in Harrogate time and stress searching and paying for parking.

The solution, launched in January 2019, was a global first, and involved the installation of 2,156 smart sensors and the consolidation of digitised parking data, parking sensors, parking payments, and linear pricing into a single solution for the two authorities that enabled a totally seamless experience for users of our mobile app.

With over year under its belt, the scheme has realised a number of benefits for residents, visitors and business owners in Harrogate. 39% of users have reported staying longer in Harrogate as a result of not worrying about a pay and display (P&D) ticket expiring, 21% have saved time finding a car parking space, 66% say that using AppyParking alleviates the stress normally associated with a P&D ticket expiring, and 89% say that Appy is more convenient than using a P&D machine.

Dan Hubert, CEO & Founder of AppyWay adds “We’re delighted to see our world-first Smart City Parking scheme in Harrogate be extended for a further 12 months from July this year. The collaboration with both local authorities has been extremely positive, and the amazing feedback from local residents and visitors to the town is testament to the transformative experience our app provides drivers. Not having to worry about your ticket expiring is translating into longer average parking durations of 10 minutes on-street and 50 minutes in car parks, for drivers using our app compared to displaying a ticket. The implication for footfall on the local high-street could be significant, particularly during challenging times for retailers. We’re very much looking forward to learning more about how our smart parking solution is positively impacting Harrogate over the next year and a half.”
